The
apartment is 5 minutes walk to the centre of Pinos Genil. With
a population of approximately 1600, Pinos Genil is a delightful
little village which straddles both sides of the river Genil
at the mouth of the Genil Valley. It is just 7 kilometres from
the city of Granada, 8 kilometres from the next village of Güejar
Sierra and 25 kilometres from the ski resort of Sierra Nevada.
Narrow streets lined with Arabic influenced whitewashed houses
meander through the old village. |

A
number of excellent bar/ restaurants with exceptionally reasonable
prices, line the riverside including the "Casa Meson Guillermo“,
Taberna del Turron“ and the “Cazadores”. Spend the evenings
with the locals and enjoy the cool, relaxed atmosphere created
by the river flowing by. Facilities available in the village
include a bank with ATM, local store, well stocked supermarket
and an excellent bakery. The recently restored river walk provides
for leisurely strolls or bike rides as far as Granada if you
so desire. In the village there are seven typically Spanish
restaurants to choose from where you can eat outside under the
shade of the numerous trees, observing the slow pace of village
life. You can also eat at the two hotels in the village, Hotel
Duquesa and Hotel Labella Maria where you can eat either inside
or outside. |

To
get to the village centre, from the apartment, turn left out
of the street door, turn left at the corner, walk past the
apartments and at the end of the block turn left again. Walk
down the slope toward the river and at the bottom turn sharp
right and follow the lane by the side of the river into the
village. On entering the village the first restaurant on
the right is Taberna del Turron. The second is Casa Guillermo
(pronounced Gwee-ermo). Between the two, is an excellent little
shop open seven days a week which sells most food you might
need during your stay. There is also a larger supermarket
down a narrow lane on the right. Further on you can cross
the river via a road bridge (immediately after the new foot
bridge). Over the bridge on the right is another good restaurant
called La Cazadores. Over the bridge and turning left brings
you to Hostel del Patos 100 yards on your right. On leaving
the village in the direction of Granada, after you have crossed
the bridge, 100 metres on the left, is the restaurant Duqueza
which serves excellent steaks and very good red wines and
has a log fire in winter.
